HOLLAND, MI (92 7 WHTC, Nov. 4, 2026) – The Lakeshore’s Congressional representation will be all blue following Tuesday’s General Election.
While Democrat Hillary Scholten of Grand Rapids handily defeated Republican Terri DeBoer for a third two-year term in the 3rd District, the 4th District race narrowly went to challenger Sean McCann.
MIRS News had initially projected eight-term Republican incumbent Bill Huizenga of Holland would defeat the Democratic state Senator from Kalamazoo by 400 votes. However, the Lansing-based news service sent a corrected report around 8:30 AM, saying that, due to additional votes recorded in Kalamazoo County, McCann was projected to win by around 6,500 votes.
This would give the Democrats nine seats in he US House, with the four by the GOP the smallest from this state in 142 years.
