The Hope College softball team placed fifth in the 2024 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Flying Dutch finished with 39 points in the nine-team poll. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.
Trine University, last season’s MIAA champion, topped the poll with 63 points and seven of eight possible first-place votes.
Coaches could not vote for their teams. Calvin University took second with 58 points and two first-place votes. Adrian came in third with 45 points, while Alma College was fourth with 43.
Hope finished ahead of sixth-place Kalamazoo College (30 points), seventh-place Albion College and Saint Mary’s College with 19 points apiece, and ninth-place The University of Olivet with eight points.
The Flying Dutch begin the season on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24, in Edwardsville, Illinois, by playing games against Fontbonne University (Mo.), Illinois College and Belhaven University (Miss.).
Hope’s home opener is Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Olivet.
Head coach Michelle Brander Metiva is entering her first season leading the Flying Dutch.
Hope returns All-MIAA First Team outfielder Peyton Benjamin (Eaton Rapids, Michigan / Eaton Rapids HS).
