ACCRA (Reuters) – Ghana’s electoral commission has approved 13 candidates, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former president John Dramani Mahama, to contest a presidential poll set for Dec. 7, a top elections authority official said on Friday.
The commission said it had also accepted the candidacies of Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former trade and industry minister who resigned from the ruling party to contest as an independent candidate, Nana Kwame Bediako, a businessman competing for the first time for the top job, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, one of two female candidates in the race.
(This story has been corrected to say that Nana Akosua Frimpomaa is one of the two female candidates in the presidential race, in paragraph 2)
