Former New York Giants star Michael Strahan is pursuing an opportunity for an ownership stake in the team, Sportico reported Monday.
Strahan, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, has reportedly teamed up with billionaire Marc Lasry to potentially purchase a piece of the up to 10 percent of the Giants that is up for sale.
The current owners, the Mara and Tisch families, hired a banker in February to reportedly explore finding two or three wealthy individuals or families, as opposed to private equity, to buy a non-controlling stake in the team.
Strahan’s former teammate, Eli Manning, reportedly discussed joining the group but ultimately cited conflicts with his other business holdings.
Strahan, a four-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection, played his entire 15-year career as a defensive end with the Giants. He compiled 854 tackles and 141.5 sacks on his way to two Super Bowl appearances, including a win in 2008 in his final NFL game.
The 53-year-old has had a successful entertainment career since retiring from the NFL. He currently serves as a co-host on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and is a football analyst on Fox NFL Sunday.
